NOW Foods Energy
A serious and safe boost of energy in a little pill? Thats what NOW Foods Energy is promising with their proprietary herbal formula. It’s more of just an energy supplement than a weight loss pill, but it does contain mild doses of ingredients that can promote fat thermogenesis. It may keep you energized for a few extra hours in the day, but you may need another weight loss pill if you’re looking to slim down.
What’s in NOW Foods Energy
The first component of NOW Energy is the vitamin complex, containing :Vitamin E, Vitamin B-1, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B-6, Vitamin B-12, Vitamin B-5, Iodine, Chromium (as Chromium Chelavite), Potassium – 121 mg
Next, you’ve got your major sources of caffeine, along with antioxidants:
- Guarana Standardized Extract (42 mg of Caffeine) – 280 mg
- Green Tea Extract (8 mg of Caffeine) – 200 mg
Followed by Asian ginseng and “Siberian ginseng.” These may keep you from tiring out as quickly, but they won’t necessarily boost your energy:
- Panax Ginseng – 150 mg
- Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus) – 150 mg
Other ingredients:
- Rhodiola Extract (Rhodiola rosea)- 100 mg – may help improve mood and alleviate depression in larger doses
- Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – 100 mg – may help soothe digestive tract inflammation
- Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) – 100 mg – a mild adaptogen (stamina enhancer), anti-inflammatory agent and diuretic.
- Yerba Mate Extract (llex paraguariensis with 4 mg of Caffeine) – 50 mg – containing antioxidants, this herb is usually higher in caffeine
- Cayenne (Capsicum annuum) – 50 mg – contains capsaicin, which can elevate your body’s basal metabolism temporarily.
- Alpha Lipoic Acid – 25 mg – antioxidant
- CoQ10 – 10 mg – a token dose of a chemical your body already makes enough of.
- Octacosanol – 30 mcg – may help reduce cholesterol, but in larger dose than this.
Is NOW Foods Energy Safe?
Based on most of the dosages in NOW Energy, you’re not exposed to many serious risks. However, the company does make a point of saying that the niacin in it “may cause temporary flushing, tingling or skin reddening.” Other possible side effects may include:
- Nervousness
- Sleeplessness
- Nausea
With a relatively mild dose of caffeine (about half a cup of coffee’s worth) you probably won’t have a problem if you’re not very sensitive to caffeine.
How Much is NOW Foods Energy?
Very affordable for a weight loss pill or energy pill, you can guy NOW Foods Energy in bulk and get it for $7 per bottle. That’s cheaper than a lot of generic multi vitamin supplements but it is a little strange that the list price is $15.99 per bottle and they can afford to sell it at $7. While it has some good ingredients, the dosages are low and this justifies a pretty low price.
Are There Any Cons to NOW Foods Energy?
Only a few worth mentioning. We understand that NOW Energy isn’t claiming to be a cure-all or even a great weight loss pill. It simply claims to promote healthy energy levels and it does it fairly well. However, the dosage on the ingredients that promote thermogenesis are too weak to really help you.
Is NOW Foods Energy Worth Purchasing?
It depends. If you’re looking for a weight loss pill that can be a real asset to your diet plan as you are working out and counting calories, NOW Foods Energy is not the product you want, even for the price. However, if you’d just like to try a mild energy booster at a pretty reasonable price, you might give NOW Energy a shot.
