NOW Foods GlucoFit
GlucoFit from NOW Foods is a weight loss pill which is focused primarily on “promoting healthy glucose metabolism.” For those who suffer from Type 2 diabetes as well as obesity, this may appear to be a pretty attractive and very affordable weight loss pill. However, the kicker is that the company says it “Supports Blood Sugar Levels already within the Healthy Range.”
Within the healthy range? So what they’re saying is that GlucoFit can help you control your blood sugar if you already don’t have any trouble controlling it. That’s like saying “supports a healthy amount of body fat for those who already are not overweight.”
Even so, we’ve looked into the research on GlucoFit’s simple formula and have found at least some clinical evidence that it can help lower blood glucose levels by increasing insulin sensitivity, but very little evidence that this sole effect can translate into weight loss.
What’s in NOW Foods GlucoFit
When we say this is a simple formula, we mean it. NOW Foods GlucoFit has just one proprietary ingredient:
- GlucoFit (from Lagerstroemia speciosa) (Leaf) (Standardized to min. 18% Corosolic Acid) – 1.334 mg
Lagerstroemia speciosa is better known as Banaba leaf and has been used for many years in south asia to treat a variety of ailments. The active component in banaba is corosolic acid and modern scientific studies have shown that taking 0.34 – 0.38 mg of it daily may slightly reduce blood sugar levels by increasing your body’s insulin sensitivity (the opposite effect of Type 2 diabetes). Each daily dose (2 capsules) of GlucoFit gives you 0.48 mg, but the long-term results from using GlucoFit aren’t really all that clear.
Is NOW Foods GlucoFit Safe?
Generally, banaba leaf and corosolic acid (in small levels) is considered to be safe, so there shouldn’t be any significant side effects from using GlucoFit. However, if you have any issue with abnormal blood sugar levels you should
- Realize that NOW Foods GlucoFit doesn’t even claim to be able to help you at all
- Check with your doctor before using a product that claims to regulate blood glucose levels or insulin sensitivity
How Much is NOW Foods GlucoFit?
A bottle of GlucoFit, which will last you 30 days, is listed by the company at $13.99, though you can only buy it through secondary retailers. The lowest price we’ve seen online is $6.31 plus almost $5 shipping, so you can definitely find it very cheaply. However, there is no mention on any of the sites we checked out of a satisfaction guarantee.
Are There Any Cons to NOW Foods GlucoFit?
Yes, a very big one. There is no evidence to suggest that NOW Foods GlucoFit can actually help you with getting “fit”. It’s fine that the science on corosolic acid isn’t clear with regards to blood glucose, but as a weight loss pill there is a big problem with having no evidence of being able to accelerate weight loss.
Is NOW Foods GlucoFit Worth Purchasing?
If you’re into just trying random weight loss pills and think that glucose control is the key to fat metabolism (which it isn’t), then you might consider picking yourself up a cheap bottle of GlucoFit. However, considering the lack of evidence for effectiveness as a weight loss pill and the fact it only help you with blood sugar if you don’t need help, we’d say save your money for a weight loss pill that has really proven itself.
